Am I a Candidate for Zoom! Teeth Whitening?

Most patients are ideal candidates for teeth whitening with the ZOOM! system. It may be perfect for you if you’ve noticed that your teeth aren’t as bright as they once were.

Many things contribute to stained teeth, such as drinking coffee, tea, cola, and red wine or smoking. ZOOM! tackles these stains for a brighter and more confident smile.

Some stains, however, cannot be treated with topical whitening. These types of stains are caused by certain medications, dental trauma, and age. Dr. Adler will determine if you are a good candidate for whitening, and if not, he will suggest alternative cosmetic treatments.

How Long Does tt Take to Whiten Teeth With the ZOOM! System?

We perform ZOOM! whitening in three 15-minute cycles. We apply fresh gel each time to ensure the best results. You can plan for your entire appointment to last roughly an hour.

Most people achieve the results they desire after one session. In some cases, a series of milder treatments may be appropriate. The system offers different treatment settings to accommodate your unique needs.

How Should I Prepare for My Teeth Whitening Sessions?

The two most important things to do before arriving for your Zoom! teeth whitening sessions in Boulder, CO, are to make sure you’ve had a decent meal beforehand and have brushed your teeth afterward. Once the whitening sessions have been completed and the desired results have been achieved, you’ll have to wait some time before having another meal, so it’s best to not go into the session with an empty stomach.

And brushing your teeth thoroughly beforehand will ensure your mouth is nice and clean before you sit down for your teeth whitening. Of course, we’ll ensure that your teeth are properly cleaned regardless to ensure the success of your Zoom! teeth whitening.

Is ZOOM! Teeth Whitening Safe?

Extensive research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dentist is safe. In fact, many dentists consider teeth whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure available.

A clinical study performed by Loma Linda University on the effect of teeth whitening gel on tooth enamel confirmed that ZOOM! in-office teeth whitening is safe. The study concluded that ZOOM! “does not adversely affect the microhardness and surface morphology of human enamel.”

Another clinical study was conducted by Discus Dental to evaluate the efficacy of the ZOOM! Teeth Whitening System. Fifty subjects participated in a study that showed that the average shade change with the Zoom! system is eight shades, and that the ZOOM! system is “safe and effective for whitening teeth rapidly.”

Is ZOOM! Teeth Whitening Painful?

ZOOM! teeth whitening was created with your comfort in mind. The gentle system delivers superior enamel protection and reduces sensitivity.

Discus Dental found that minimal sensitivity was noted during their study mentioned above, with a significant number of patients reporting no sensitivity. Your appointment should be comfortable, and you should be able to resume your normal routine right away.

As such, the Zoom! teeth whitening process requires no sedatives or anesthetics whatsoever. That means no numb mouth once the treatment is finished. Moreover, there is no chance of you having a negative reaction to an anesthetic or sedative since they won’t be used at all in the first place!

What Food Can I Eat Directly After My Teeth Whitening?

Directly after your teeth whitening in Boulder, CO, you should avoid eating or drinking for about one to three hours, depending on Dr. Adler’s recommendation. This ensures that the effects of the whitening have time to settle without accidentally staining them. Moreover, it gives your teeth time to reacclimate to their normal feeling in the event that they are overly sensitive after the treatment.

However, once those few hours are up, you’ll still want to watch what you eat for anywhere between 24 and 72 hours for the same reasons as above. We recommend softer foods that are also less likely to cause stains on your newly whitened teeth. These foods can include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Fish
  • Turkey
  • Chicken
  • Rice
  • Pasta
  • Soft Bread
  • Light Cheese
  • Mashed Potatoes

Meanwhile, some foods and drinks you should absolutely avoid during the same timeframe are:

  • Excessively sugary foods
  • Soda
  • Any kind of alcohol
  • Coffee and Tea
  • Gum
  • Ice Cream

Are There Any Side Effects of Zoom! Teeth Whitening?

As you may have noticed so far, there are a few side effects that you may experience once you’ve successfully completed your Zoom! teeth whitening sessions. The most common side effects are tooth and gum sensitivity. This is because the light-accelerated technology used in the actual whitening process itself can be quite intense, and though it doesn’t cause pain, it can reduce the sensitivity of your teeth and gums temporarily. However, other than that sensitivity, there are rarely any other side effects.

How Can I Prolong the Effects of My Teeth Whitening?

The best way to ensure the longevity of your newly whitened teeth is by following Dr. Adler’s post-treatment recommendations. Those will include some of the suggestions we’ve laid out here on this page, including a temporarily modified diet and some post-treatment self-care.

Most importantly—as it always is—be sure to maintain a consistent and healthy oral health routine of brushing and flossing at least twice a day, as well as the use of a doctor-approved mouthwash.
