How Long Does a Full Mouth Reconstruction Take?

Dentist calendar Restoring the teeth in the upper and lower jaws through a full mouth reconstruction can be a significant process. It takes anywhere from several weeks to upwards of a year to complete this type of comprehensive treatment plan.

Your timeline will depend on the extent of your oral health problems and the specific procedures and treatments needed to achieve a healthy smile. Every patient is different. However, you can rest assured that our goal is to finish your full mouth reconstruction in as few visits as possible.

Experienced dentist Dr. Michael Adler will discuss the timing of your specific case in greater detail. It is helpful to know that the typical full mouth reconstruction goes through the following stages:

  • Evaluation and treatment planning: Dr. Adler will perform a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, and jaw. He will also discuss your concerns and your goals for treatment. Using this information, he will develop a comprehensive plan for your full mouth reconstruction.

  • Bite assessment:  Dr. Adler will identify your ideal bite alignment. This allows him to eliminate the problems causing your teeth to break and possibly remove the need for jaw surgery.

  • Gum disease treatment: It is important to treat gum disease before moving on to more advanced procedures and services. We have a periodontist on staff, so you won’t need to visit another specialist.

  • Full mouth reconstruction procedures: Your plan may include procedures such as TMJ treatment, root canal therapy, dental implants, and gum recontouring. These and other procedures are commonly scheduled in a series over multiple appointments.

While a full mouth reconstruction may take some time to complete, the results are worthwhile. Patients who previously suffered from extensive tooth trauma and decay enjoy a dramatic boost in dental function, comfort, and aesthetics.

“Words can’t express how grateful I am for all of you! I feel as though you have pulled off the impossible by fixing my smile, my dental health, my overall health, and my self esteem. It’s more than a new smile, it’s a new me – and I can’t praise you all enough. You are truly the best!” – Patient review
