Placed over the front of the teeth, porcelain veneers offer a variety of cosmetic benefits. Even capable of improving the appearance of minor bite issues such as crooked tooth presentation and gaps, dental veneers can address problems including:
- Teeth that are unevenly sized or shaped
- Teeth that are chipped, cracked, or broken
- Uneven tooth wear and exposed dentin
- Severe discoloration underneath the enamel
Porcelain veneers can improve the appearance of teeth that have become yellowed due to enamel wear and also address the ribboning or mottled appearance that can be caused by external factors such as fluorosis or tetracycline. These issues are always correctible with topical teeth whitening.
A Smile Makeover
Due to their ability to address so many cosmetic concerns, dental veneers are often used in the smile makeover process. While porcelain veneers can be used on just a few teeth, they can also be placed on several teeth at once, helping to completely transform the smile and produce a stunningly attractive look.
Similarly, dental veneers are sometimes referred to as “instant orthodontics” due to their ability to improve the appearance of teeth with cosmetic bite issues. When placed over teeth that are crooked, unevenly spaced, or irregularly sized, porcelain veneers can create a straight, even, and beautiful appearance in a fraction of time required for orthodontic treatments like braces or Invisalign®. However, dental veneers cannot be used for more pronounced or severe bite issues.
How “Instant” is instant?
The term “instant” as regards veneers is relative. The dental veneer process takes around one month to complete and will require two to three visits to our office. During your first visit, the teeth that are being treated will be prepared and an impression of your smile will be made. This impression will be sent to our trusted dental lab partners where your customized porcelain veneers will be fabricated to Dr. Adler’s exact specifications. While you are awaiting these dental veneers, temporary restorations will be placed over your teeth to keep your smile attractive in the interim.
Once your veneers have been created, you will return to our office to have them placed. Minor adjustments may be needed before your dental veneers are affixed permanently to your teeth. These help ensure your new smile is flawlessly beautiful and natural-looking. Final adjustments also help safeguard your comfort and work to ensure optimal performance from your new restorations.
